Home care, made simple.

Seasonal checklists, maintenance tips and practical guides for Lahore homes.

Keeping a home in Lahore running smoothly is largely about staying ahead of the seasons. Hot summers, dusty pre-monsoon winds, hard water and occasional load-shedding each put their own strain on your appliances and fittings. These guides cover the fixes you can manage yourself — and the jobs best left to a verified professional.

AC maintenance

Keep your AC running through Lahore's summer

By April your air conditioner is the single most important appliance in the house. Peak-season breakdowns cost more and wait longer — usually because the unit was pushed from extremely high usage without care since the start of the season:

  • Clean or replace the air filter every few weeks during continuous use; a clogged filter drops cooling and forces the compressor to work harder.
  • Keep the outdoor condenser clear of leaves, dust and direct sun where possible — shade alone can cut running costs noticeably.
  • Set the thermostat to a comfortable 24°C instead of running it at maximum all day.

If the unit is not cooling, making unusual noise, leaking water, or you notice it needs gas charging — skip the DIY. Refrigerant work requires proper equipment and recovery.

Plumbing

Hard water and pressure: the two things Lahore homes fight

Underground water in much of Lahore is hard, which means limescale builds up inside taps, shower heads and geysers over time. Mineral deposits reduce flow and, left too long, can damage heating elements. A few habits help:

  • Descale shower heads and tap aerators once every few months — soaking them in a descaling solution is a ten-minute job.
  • Watch for dripping taps; a slow drip wastes litres every day and stains tiles and basins.
  • Before the monsoon, check that roof tanks and overflow pipes are clean and sealed — waterlogging after heavy rain is far more common than people expect.

Leaks inside the wall, bathroom repairs, and anything involving the main supply line are jobs for a plumber. Get a price range upfront — verified professionals quote before work starts.

Cleaning

Dust, pollen and pre-monsoon deep cleans

Between the summer's dusty winds and high humidity, Lahore homes collect a surprising amount of airborne grit. Deep cleaning a few times a year keeps allergies down and extends the life of carpets, curtains and upholstery:

  • Vacuum and wash curtains near the start of summer to clear the winter dust.
  • Clean ceiling fans and light fixtures before peak season — every season's first switching-on redistributes months of settled dust.
  • After the rainy season, check cupboards and wardrobes for damp and mould, especially in rooms without direct sunlight.

For full-house deep cleans, sofa shampooing or large carpets, a professional cleaning team saves days of effort and gives noticeably better results.

Electrical safety

Load-shedding, inverters and overloaded boards

Intermittent power means more switching, more inrush, and more strain on household wiring. The common warning signs worth taking seriously — before they become a fire risk:

  • Breakers that trip regularly point to an overloaded circuit, not just a "sensitive" board.
  • Warm outlets, flickering lights or a burning smell near the distribution board need urgent attention.
  • Inverter/UPS battery connections should be checked occasionally — a loose terminal can arc and damage boards and nearby equipment.

Electrical work is not a DIY area. Faulty wiring is the leading cause of short-circuits in Pakistani homes, so always hire a qualified electrician for anything beyond changing a plug or bulb.

Choosing the right help

DIY, or book a professional?

A useful rule of thumb: if a mistake can cause injury, damage the building, or void the warranty on an expensive appliance, book a professional. Gas connections and major plumbing or electrical work should always be handled by a verified expert. For everything else, ratings, reviews and transparent pricing make the decision easy.
